Our Masters in International Security Studies is a 1 Year program which consists of 4 terms (12 months) with 7 classes totaling 3 terms, with assignments, discussions, and a Major Research Project (MRP) 4th term. Our organization is beginning its accreditation under the Paris Graduate School (PGS) process so we are able to discount the course to obtain a specific number for the process. The Degree is conferred by Paris Graduate school and GCTI.  

 

A bachelors is recommended at the postgraduate level 7 entry / or 5 years of military or Law enforcement will also qualify. ISS501 Intro to Criminal Law (Term 1) (20 credits)

 

Students will review the judicial process of criminal courts, both locally and internationally, in respect to Terrorism including the United Nations Counter -Terrorism instruments and their application to international terrorism.

 

 

ISS502 International Security Theory and Practice (Term 1) (20 credits)

International Security Studies provides students with a comprehensive introduction to the subject of security studies, with a strong emphasis on the use of case studies to illustrate theoretical debates.

ISS503 Understanding Human Rights (Term 2) (20 credits)

 

Students will identify key components of human rights as it related to terrorism. The United Nations Universal Declaration of Human Rights provides the foundation for further international agreements, and the application of international laws to terrorism offences.

 

 

ISS504 Terrorism and Counter-Terrorism Studies (Term 2) (20 credits)

Students will obtain a great amount of information about the theory and history of terrorism as well as the history of political violence. As well as to determine the many domestic and international terrorist groups along with their leadership and tactile skills and to Identify the many motivations of known terrorist leaders and their followers

 

ISS505 Criminal Investigation and Theory and Practice (Term 2) (20 credits)

 

Students will review the history of criminal investigations of terrorism with an emphasis in best practices for gathering evidence and identifying the police powers for the investigation of terrorism offences.

 

 

ISS506 Terrorism and Policing Response (Term 3) Elective (10 credits)

 

Students will evaluate the role that law enforcement plays in the response to terrorist attacks, threats and the balance between security and protection of freedoms. This course will introduce the background of terrorism evolution and the current challenges related to policing terrorism.

ISS507 Organized Transnational Crime and Intelligence (Term 3) Elective (10 credits)

 

Students will critically analyze transnational organized crime around the world through the analysis of individual regions current challenges. The role in which transnational organized crime plays in aiding terrorism efforts. The course also evaluates the intelligence process and with particular attention to how intelligence related to terrorism is collected, analyzed and put into practice by law enforcement and legislation to combat terrorism.

ISS508 Cyberspace and the Global Trends 2030 (Term 3) Elective (10 credits)

A greater focus on the role of the US in the international system.  A clearer understanding of the central units in the international system. Greater attention to ideology.

ISS509A Major Research Project (Term 4) (10 credits)

Students will learn and perform both Qualitative and Quantitative research methodology with correct citations. The Major Research Project term 4 will be a dissertation of a topic chosen by the student and presented on a global platform.

 

ISS510 Internship (Term 4)  Elective

Students will undertake a group project consisting of an academic research paper and presentation in addition to short individual research tasks and activities that they will present to the rest of the cohort. 

 

 

 

The Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma in International Security Studies is a 6-7 module (120 credits) course, with 40 guided learning hours per module.  All modules have an additional 20-50 learning hours of optional materials which include recommended exercises, reading and internet resources.

This is a 360 Guided Learning Hour program where students are required to demonstrate interpersonal, self-study and research and presentation skills throughout the qualification.  Assessments are developed to encourage skills that will provide students with a very strong foundation for further advancement in the field.

Students can achieve the guided learning hours in a combination of on-line discussion classroom interactions, attending on-line seminars, visits to on-line conferences, self-study and group study, as well as independent study and research work.

The postgraduate Level 7 Postgraduate Diploma assessment methods have been designed to enable students to demonstrate level seven outcomes for this level of qualification.   • Enable them to integrate their knowledge gained in political/ diplomatic analysis

  • Provide them with a recognized and respected qualification which will enable them to complete high level programs including Masters and Doctorate level

  • Have an extensive knowledge and critical understanding of some of the major approaches in international security studies.

  • Show a reflective intellectual grasp of some of the most challenging security issues today.

  • Demonstrate an ability to apply specialized skills and analytical tools to a variety of empirical cases.

  • Demonstrate an ability to identify, conceptualize and define abstract problems and issues related to security.

  • Show transferable research skills such as advanced analytical thinking and communication skills.

  • Upon the completion of the course, you will be able to have a better understanding of the criminal justice system and gain employment within criminal justice or pursue further studies in this area.

  • Throughout the program students will work on one research paper to be published in a recognized journal each term. These 2 papers will be 2500 words each. Topics to be chosen, peer reviewed with instruction on research methodology.

 

 

 

Admission requirements

Applicants should be holders of either a relevant recognized Bachelor’s degree (equivalence for non-UK degrees evaluated through NARIC) or the Level 6 Diploma. Admission may also be granted to non-graduates with a minimum of three years’ work experience in the field of study or a related field. All applicants should have the following English proficiency: Minimum English IELTS 5.5 or an approved equivalent. (Recommended English IELTS 6.0 level or an approved equivalent).
