The Prohibition against Torture and other Cruel, Inhuman, and Degrading Treatment follows the right to life, in that the State must provide protections for individuals to live their life without being subjected to torture, cruel, inhuman, or degrading treatment. This protection must be from both the State and non-state actors. The Right to a Fair Trial protects individuals from being unfairly tried for a crime and confirms an avenue for appeals to correct an injustice.
