CJ 402e: Human Rights in the Criminal Justice System

The impact that human rights have on policing and criminal justice. Human rights have a hand in how authorities, both local and national, police their populations as well as the criminal justice system. Due to the wide variety of ways in which human rights impact the criminal justice system, these impacts can be minute and direct as well as broad and sweeping. There are challenges that States face when countering terrorism, both reactionary and preemptively, that can positively and negatively affect human rights. Actions taken by a State to counter terrorism must take steps to protect human rights from both non-State actors and the actions of the government.
